For the 1st quarter this school year, all of my classes worked on a PBL project that answered the question:How has computer technology evolved? To lead into the project students were taught about the general internal and external parts of the computer. Then working in groups students were assigned one of the original home computers to research as well as a part of computers. After researching their assigned part of the project, the groups created descriptions for our display case. Then students were to create a product for the display as well. This could be digital or physical. Some groups chose to build models, while other created websites, Thinglinks, videos or games. For the digital items, students created QR codes that can be scanned using an internet-connected device to view their work. The variety of of imaginative projects forced me to reconsider my scoring rubric expectations in a much better way than I ever imagined. A few struggles with the project included students working in groups, learning to use and collaborate on Google documents and our time table to work in. However, the results of the project were worth the struggles. If you are in the area, please stop by the SEMS library display case this month!
